strangers

Jennifer was sleeping when the noise from the kitchen woke her up. She grabbed her gold club and started walking down the stairs. When she was walking down the stairs, she heard a man’s voice from her kitchen. She couldn’t hear clearly and began to tremble. She had a second thought and decided that going downstairs and confronting the man in the kitchen mightn’t be such a good idea. She figured that it would be better for her to go back to her bedroom, lock the door and called the police. She was very scared at that point and accidentally dropped the gold club. The golf club made a loud noise when it hit the floor. She panicked and was not able to move her legs.
The voice from the kitchen grew louder and Jennifer accepted the fact that she might not live to see another day. She wanted  to scream but nothing came out of her throat. She saw a large shadow moving from the bottom of the stairs. The man was walking toward her when the house started shaking violently.  Jennifer didn’t dare to open her eyes. They held on to the railings waiting for the earthquake to pass. The chandelier on the ceiling above the man was rocking back and forth when the string snapped. It fell and landed on the man’s head.
The house stopped shaking after a couple of minutes and Jennifer gathered her courage, opened her eyes and walked toward the stranger. What she saw shocked her. The chandelier crushed the stranger’s head and he was dead. The dead stranger was holding a bloody cleaver and his body was covered in blood.
When the police arrived at Jennifer’s house, they informed her that the man was a serial killer and had killed her next door’s neighbour. The man entered her house because she had forgotten to close her kitchen door. He was making himself a sandwich when he heard sound of the golf club hitting the stairs. Apparently he was mumbling to himself whether to make a peanut butter or a strawberry sandwich when he heard Jennifer walking down the stairs.

Panting

Peter and Ann decided to redecorate their sitting room themselves. They chose cream paint for the woodwork and green for the walls. When John looked in the see how they were getting on, Ann was mixing the paint and Peter was washing down the walls. They was glad to see John and asked if he did anything special that day. He hasly replied he was going to the theatre and went away at once, because he knew they looked for someone to help them.
They began painting, but found the walls were too wet. While they were waiting for the paint to dry, Ann remembered she had a phone call to make. Peter started painting while she was telephoning and doing a whole wall before Ann came back. He grumbled that she always telephoning. Ann replied that Peter always complaining.

They worked in silence for some time, Just as they started the third door, the door bell rang. It was a friend of Peter’s who wanted to know if Peter had a racket. He kept on talking to Peter while Ann was going on painting. At last he left. Peter returned expecting Ann to say something about it. But Ann said nothing.
Then Peter thought he would do the ceiling. He just climbed the ladder when the bell rang again. Ann said that she got tired of the interruptions but went and opened the door. It was the postman with a letter from her aunt Marry, saying she was coming to spend the weekend and was arriving that evening at 6.30.

Sports

Lenny Kramer is sports store. He smells flowers, but he isn’t really paying attention to the aroma very much because he is looking at a pair of running shoes. They cost a lot more than he usually pays, but Lenny really wants those shoes. He’s the victim of “smart scents”, aromas that stores use to make customers buy more.

Across town, Lenny’s daughter Myra is taking a history test in a classroom that was recently painted yellow. Although Myra hates history, she seems to be doing well on this test. She likes the new colour of her classroom. She doesn’t suspect that it’s helping her on the test, but it is. Scientists have shown that yellow improves both memory and concentration.
We now know that odors, colors and sounds affect our moods and even our health. In fact, right now Lenny’s wife, Cindy is thinking about Lenny and Myra. She’s sure that Lenny is spending too much on shoes and that Myra is failing another history test. Cindy suffers from migraine headaches, but she doesn’t have a headache today. She’s in the garden and she hears birds and insect sounds. They always calm her down.

Post card

Hi Tony! I’m in San Fransisco now. We arrived here yesterday. Before that we stayed 10 days in New York. It was wonderful Pat and I visited a lot of interesting places including the Empire State Building. We went to the top of,  it was very high, and we felt both a bit frightened. We took a boat along the river to see the Statue of Liberty. We went through Greenwich Village and watched many artists at work. The painting was was expensive so I bought one. We also went to the theatre and saw a new musical. I loved it very much. The weather was not ok, a bit wet sometimes. But now in San Fransisco, it’s hot and sunny. See you soon.
