Panting

Peter and Ann decided to redecorate their sitting room themselves. They chose cream paint for the woodwork and green for the walls. When John looked in the see how they were getting on, Ann was mixing the paint and Peter was washing down the walls. They was glad to see John and asked if he did anything special that day. He hasly replied he was going to the theatre and went away at once, because he knew they looked for someone to help them.
They began painting, but found the walls were too wet. While they were waiting for the paint to dry, Ann remembered she had a phone call to make. Peter started painting while she was telephoning and doing a whole wall before Ann came back. He grumbled that she always telephoning. Ann replied that Peter always complaining.

They worked in silence for some time, Just as they started the third door, the door bell rang. It was a friend of Peter’s who wanted to know if Peter had a racket. He kept on talking to Peter while Ann was going on painting. At last he left. Peter returned expecting Ann to say something about it. But Ann said nothing.
Then Peter thought he would do the ceiling. He just climbed the ladder when the bell rang again. Ann said that she got tired of the interruptions but went and opened the door. It was the postman with a letter from her aunt Marry, saying she was coming to spend the weekend and was arriving that evening at 6.30.

Sports

Lenny Kramer is sports store. He smells flowers, but he isn’t really paying attention to the aroma very much because he is looking at a pair of running shoes. They cost a lot more than he usually pays, but Lenny really wants those shoes. He’s the victim of “smart scents”, aromas that stores use to make customers buy more.

Across town, Lenny’s daughter Myra is taking a history test in a classroom that was recently painted yellow. Although Myra hates history, she seems to be doing well on this test. She likes the new colour of her classroom. She doesn’t suspect that it’s helping her on the test, but it is. Scientists have shown that yellow improves both memory and concentration.
We now know that odors, colors and sounds affect our moods and even our health. In fact, right now Lenny’s wife, Cindy is thinking about Lenny and Myra. She’s sure that Lenny is spending too much on shoes and that Myra is failing another history test. Cindy suffers from migraine headaches, but she doesn’t have a headache today. She’s in the garden and she hears birds and insect sounds. They always calm her down.

Post card

Hi Tony! I’m in San Fransisco now. We arrived here yesterday. Before that we stayed 10 days in New York. It was wonderful Pat and I visited a lot of interesting places including the Empire State Building. We went to the top of,  it was very high, and we felt both a bit frightened. We took a boat along the river to see the Statue of Liberty. We went through Greenwich Village and watched many artists at work. The painting was was expensive so I bought one. We also went to the theatre and saw a new musical. I loved it very much. The weather was not ok, a bit wet sometimes. But now in San Fransisco, it’s hot and sunny. See you soon.

Whales

They therefore breathe air but cannot survive on land. Some species are very large indeed and the blue whale, which can exceed 30m in lengh, is the largest animal to have lived on earth. Superficially, the whale looks rather like a fish, but there are important di.fferences in its external structure. Its tail consists of a pair of broad, flat, horizontal paddles (the tail of a fish is vertical) and it has a single nostril on top of its large, broad head. The skin is smooth and shiny and beneath it lies a layer of fat (blubber). This is up to 30cm in thickness and serves to conserve heat and body fluids.

Town Contaminated

Moscow- A Russian journalist has uncovered evidence of another Soviet nuclear catastrophe, which killed 10 sailors and contaminated an entire town.
Yelena Vazrshavskya is the first journalist to speak to the people who witnessed the explosion of a nuclear submarine at the naval base of shkotovo-22 near Vladivostok.
The accident, which occurred 13 months before the Chemobyl disaster, spread radioactive fall out over the base and nearby town, but was covered up by officials of the then Soviet Union. Residents were told the explosion in the reactor of the Victor class submarine during a refit had been a thermal and not a nuclear explosion. And those involved in the clean up operation to remove more than 600 tonnes of contaminated material were sworn to secrecy.

Natural Bridge National Park

Natural Bridge National Park is a luscious tropical rainforest. It is located 110 kilometres south of Brisbane and is reached by following the Pacific Highway to Nerang and then by traveling through the Numinbah Valley. This scenic roadway lies in the shadow of the Lamington National Park.
The phenomenon of the rock formed into a natural ‘arch” and the cave through which a waterfall cascades is a short 1 kilometre walk below a dense rainforest canopy from the main picnic area. Swimming is permitted in the rock pools. Night time visitors to the cave will discover the unique feature of the glow worms.
Picnic areas offer toilets, barbecues, shelter sheds, water and fireplaces, however, overnight camping is not permitted.
